Comparisons can be made on the physical attributes of someone else but they can also be made on the success of another.
The day before I overheard a conversation at my local coffee shop that went like this:
Woman #1: “Have you heard ‘Mary’ is starting her new product line? Evidently she found investors willing to back it.”
Woman #2: “Well of course she did. Look at who her father is. Who wouldn’t want to somehow be connected to him? Ohhhhh please… I’m sure all it took was batting those eyes. What investor is going to say no to someone so connected and beautiful. I bet I would get funding too.”
Woman #1 nods in agreement.
This conversation reminded me of so many others I have heard over the years. They not only discount another woman’s hard work, ambition and success but also limit and sabotage the woman that is discussing it.
How about she just worked her ass off to get where she is?
Celebrate the success, uniqueness, beauty and talents of another as you would want others to celebrate yours.
Finding “fault” in others is not the path to liking what you see in yourself.
Finding “lack” in yourself is not the path to liking what you see either.
Resist the temptation to compare yourself to others because it only steals your joy, blocks the divine flow in your life and limits your true potential.
We are all in this together. Life is not a competition.
Someone else’s beauty and success can not take away from your own- unless you allow it.
The Beautiful Change came along at the perfect time indeed.
Read the mission statement below and you too can make your own Beautiful Change picture!
“’We believe we can change the world with more compliments and less comparisons.’
The Beautiful Change is more than a movement. It is a commitment to kindness. It emphasizes compliments over comparisons. Our goal is simple. We want to fill the media with photos and stories of beauty, confidence and compassion.
We want to spread a positive message of building each other up through compliments instead of tearing each other down through comparisons.
We are not interested in society’s beauty standards based on comparisons and competition.
We believe being ‘beautiful’ means you make others feel beautiful.
We believe being beautiful means you understand complimenting others does not take away from your own beauty.
We believe being beautiful means you are able to see the beauty in others while still acknowledging your own.
Gandhi said, ‘You must be the change you wish to see in the world.’ So here we are…making a difference. Making the change. The Beautiful Change. To end comparisons, competition, and jealousy and encourage kindness, compassion and love. For our generation and future generations…to love and accept ourselves for who we are.
